Mission Statement Need Justification And Potential Served There is something about playing the game of baseball that lights up a youngster’s eyes, but for children facing serious physical and mental disabilities, that opportunity can often be difficult to achieve. Baseball diamonds weren’t exactly configured with wheelchairs and crutches in mind. The barrier free Miracle League Baseball Field is designed to accommodate all children. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, there are over 78,000 special needs children in Mercer County, and another staggering 1.9 million throughout the State of New Jersey. Upon completion of the state of the art, barrier free Miracle League Baseball Field Phase1, 1,000 children will have the ability to participate. Through funding by sponsors and the commitment of volunteers, The Miracle League of Mercer County together with the Hamilton – Washington Townships Sunrise Rotary will be building a special needs complex. The barrier-free site will include a custom designed field, the first of its kind in the State of New Jersey, which incorporates a cushioned synthetic turf that allows children in wheelchairs and walkers to glide unrestricted to their positions without fear of injury. A pavilion with restroom facilities, a playground and exercise trail are also planned to meet the special-needs of the children.
